The current ‘Tripartite Agreement’ means that although equines must hold a valid Passport to travel between the UK, France and Ireland, there is no need for them to have a health certificate or clinical inspection. The Veterinary industry is now calling for a review to be made, as the current rulings in place could potentially allow serious diseases to enter the UK from border-free...

A horrific story came to light in the equestrian news recently when a prized show horse was killed instantly by a truck on a main road in England. The horse was being transported in a trailer when the pins that hold the ramp shut popped out and the ramp fell open. This was a very popular make of trailer and was not very old.
If anyone has had a similar experience of anything like this happening...

In an effort to understand the French equine market in more detail, we have been researching the origins of horsemeat available in supermarkets within the different departments of France. Our findings so far indicate that France is a mass producer of horses for meat, but a fair proportion of those are not slaughtered here in France, but transported to Italy.

This week saw a new campaign hit the BBC headlines highlighting the plight animals suffer during long haul transport to abattoirs across Europe. The Spain to Italy route that horses often travel has a mention, which can only be a good thing for those of us campaigning to see legislation’s tightened up.
